Explosion Devastates Outer Sunset Neighborhood, SFPD Arrests Man in Connection

On Thursday morning, a powerful explosion rocked the 1700 block of 22nd Avenue in San Francisco's Outer Sunset neighborhood. The blast was so intense, it lifted the house off of its foundation and caused balls of fire to be seen throughout the neighborhood.[0] A home at 1734 22nd Ave. was destroyed in the explosion, and the homes neighboring it were significantly damaged.[1] Windows of houses and automobiles situated close by were shattered by the blast.[2]

Responding firefighters found a two-story home with heavy smoke and flames.[1] One person was found outside of the home with severe burns and was transported to a hospital while an evacuation order was issued for the entire block.[1] After extinguishing the fire, a Search K9 unit found the body of an adult who died in the fire.[3] The fire also injured one civilian and one firefighter and damaged three homes.[4]

On Friday, San Francisco police arrested 53-year-old Darron Price in connection with the fire.[5] He is being charged with involuntary manslaughter, the manufacturing of illegal narcotics and two counts of child endangerment.[6] Investigators have determined that an illegal narcotics manufacturing lab was located in the home during the incident, and the death of the female victim is still under investigation.[7]

If you have any information, please contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444 or text TIP411 and start your message with “SFPD.”.[8] The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.[3] Five families have been displaced as a result of the fire.
