Tragedy Strikes Baltimore: One Dead and Five Injured After Stolen Car Crashes Into Building

On Wednesday night, tragedy struck Baltimore, Maryland when a stolen car crashed into a building, resulting in a partial collapse of the structure.[0] At least one person is dead and five others have been hospitalized.[1]

At around 8:54 p.m., Baltimore Police officers noticed a stolen vehicle in the area of East North Avenue and North Wolfe Street.[1] When officers approached the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed, hitting another vehicle and sending both cars into the building, causing it to collapse.[2]

The pedestrian, identified as a 54-year-old man, was found in the wreckage of the collapse and was pronounced dead at the scene.[3] Five other people were injured and were taken to local hospitals, but their conditions are currently unknown.[3]

The Maryland Transit Administration declared that two bus routes were being rerouted due to police activity: the CityLink Gold and the LocalLink 21.[4] A special rescue team was also called to the area to help stabilize the building and help with the recovery process, said the firefighter’s union.[2] Footage recorded at the location reveals that over 40 firefighters, emergency workers, and at least four firetrucks were present to help remove bricks and other debris from the structure.[5]

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
