North Carolina Man Accused of Shooting 6-Year-Old Girl, Her Parents, and a Neighbor Over a Basketball
A North Carolina man, Robert Louis Singletary, is accused of shooting a 6-year-old girl, her parents, and a neighbor after a basketball rolled into his yard.[0] The incident occurred on April 18th, and Singletary fled the area after the shooting.[1] He is facing multiple charges, including four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.[2] Singletary turned himself in to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Florida, on April 22nd, and is expected to appear in court for a hearing involving extradition back to North Carolina.[3]
The shooting has left the community shocked and devastated, with witnesses reporting that Singletary ran out of his home upset after the ball rolled onto his yard and started firing a gun at a neighbor.[4] William White and his 6-year-old daughter Kinsley were seriously hurt during the shooting.[4] According to witnesses, Singletary fired a full magazine at White and his daughter, while White attempted to retaliate using his own firearm. Family members say White tried to draw gunfire towards himself to protect his family as Singletary unloaded an entire magazine towards his neighbor. According to Ashley Hilderbrand, White was shot in his own front yard, with the bullet striking him in the back.[5]
Kinsley, who was hit by bullet fragments, asked in an emotional interview, “Why did you shoot my daddy and me?
