House Republicans Launch Investigation into Coronavirus Origins
On Monday, House Republicans launched an investigation into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic.[0] The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, created by the House Republicans, requested documents and testimony from health and intelligence officials in the Biden administration, including Dr. Anthony Fauci.[0] Brad Wenstrup, the Subcommittee Chair from Ohio, said in a statement that “The American people deserve real answers after years of suffering through the coronavirus pandemic and related government policies.”[1] He added that an investigation was necessary in order to gain insight into how the virus originated, in order to better predict and prevent future pandemics.
The inquiry is focused on whether the virus originated in laboratory experiments in Wuhan, China, and whether US funds were sent to the lab in Wuhan. This theory is based on the idea that the virus spread from the lab, rather than the Wuhan market as some have suggested. Nonetheless, the investigation seeks to provide more evidence and clarity to the origins of the virus.
