Cancellations & Closures for Central Texas Schools & Universities Due to Winter Storm
With a Winter Storm Warning issued for Central Texas until 6 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, several North Texas school districts have already canceled classes Tuesday due to the wintry weather.[0] Austin ISD and Round Rock ISD have canceled all extracurricular and after-school activities, and other districts like Hays CISD, San Marcos CISD and Del Valle ISD are dismissing students early.[1] Additionally, classes are canceled for Tuesday, January 31 and Wednesday, Feb. 1, including STARS.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, and Wednesday, Feb. 1, both the main campus of Texas State University in San Marcos and its Round Rock campus will be closed. The campuses of Texas State San Marcos and Texas State Round Rock will be shut down on January 31st and February 1st. On Tuesday, all schools, offices, and Eanes Care, Early Education & After School Care of Eanes ISD will be closed.[2] Wednesday, all educational institutions, places of work, and childcare facilities will stay shut.[2] On January 30, no after-school activities will take place, such as athletics, extracurricular activities, and after-school care.
Killeen ISD, McGregor ISD, Midway ISD and Connally ISD will be closed again, Wednesday, Feb 1 as well as Academy ISD, West ISD, Thrall ISD, Llano ISD, Central Texas College, Texas State Technical College, A&M Central Texas, Georgetown ISD, Pflugerville ISD, Williamson County offices, McLennan County offices, St. Edward's University, College Station ISD, St. Mary's Catholic School in Temple, St. Peter Catholic School in Fulton, St. Joseph Catholic Academy in Killeen, Bastrop ISD, Chaparral Star Academy, Child Inc – Head Start, Del Valle ISD, Harmony Public Schools, Huston-Tillotson University, IDEA Public Schools Greater Austin Region, KIPP Texas-Austin Schools, Round Rock ISD, San Marcos CISD, Texas School for the Blind, Valor Classical Schools, Veritas Academy, and YMCA of Austin centers.[3]
Most of the schools that decided to shut down on Monday are located to the west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.[4] Schools in Lake Travis will not be open on Wednesday.[2] Further updates regarding the district will be announced Wednesday afternoon.[2] Southwestern University and Midwestern State University will also be closed Wednesday.
